On October 18th 2007 the Parliament hosted workshop under topic "Enhancement of the economic legislation reform process in the country". On behalf of the ICI, the President Aristides Vlachos was among the key speakers. The workshop was organized by OECD Investment Compact and GTZ.Strengthening the role of Parliament while passing laws in the field of economy and possibilities for alteration of the Rules of Procedures for enabling participation of experts from adequate areas in order to create conditions for bigger foreign investments are some of the recommendations from the participants at the workshop titled "Reform Process Improvement of Economic Legislation in the Republic of Macedonia", which was held in Parliament's premises.
- Macedonia may become a model to the other countries in the region. Nevertheless, an enhanced role of the parliamentary committees and enlarged budget are necessary, noted Rainer Geiger, co-chair of Investment Compact for Southeast Europe. Geiger emphasized that Parliament''s reinforced role implies greater responsibility, urges observance of opposition''s stand point and constructive debates for finding the best solutions. - All parliaments in the region should improve the economic climate, said Geiger. Thomas Mayer, financial manager of SEE Regional Fund, said that legal and economic reforms implemented in the countries are most important, even though all economic changes trigger effects in society. Slavica Penev of Belgrade''s Economic Institute underlined that a significant progress has been made in Macedonia, although certain segments are in early stages. - Other countries haven''t made the progress of Macedonia on the road to EU. However, institutions with better qualities are needed for implementation of economic laws, said Penev. Highlighting the strategic goals of the Government - accelerated economic development and Euro-Atlantic integration- Finance Ministry''s state secretary, Snezana Kostadinovska Milosevska said that most of the measures undertaken for market economy are overlapping with European instances. She informed that the Ministry of Finance was promptly working on improvement of business climate, conditions in private sector and citizens''living standards. Macedonia''s Economic Chamber urges the cooperation between the Parliament and business community to be established by enabling their representatives to take part in the operations of adequate working bodies when business debates would be held. Verica Hadzi Vasileva, a representative of the Analysis and Advisory Group, stated that the Parliament was opened for the public, although there was a lack of monitoring for the activities agreed by the parliamentarians themselves. Speaking before the participants, she said the Government was working in line with 2006-2010 programmes that also include annual law adoption programmes.

President of ICI Mr. Aristides Vlachos presented the views and analyzes of the International Council of Investors putting accent on the areas that still need to be improved.
